The Captivating Heart
by Dale Cramer
The Captivating Heart is a story about an Amish family that has moved to Mexico's Paradise Valley for religious freedom. The times are very hard; there are bandits raiding, stealing, kidnapping and just terrorizing the country sides. The Bender family was the first family to homestead in the valley, a few more families have moved down to establish the settlement. Life is always hard work for an Amish family, it is even harder breaking new ground and doing it without the large support system and cooperation of other families.
I loved this book. I didn't realize when I started reading it that it was the second in the series of The Daughters of Caleb Bender. I was just a page or two in when I realized that I was familiar with the names and the storyline. I was excited then, I had read the first in the series and didn't know there was a second or that it was what I was reading. These stories are full of drama and suspense, this one pulled me in like the last and I finished it in less than a 24 hour period! I would definitally recommend The Captivating Heart, even if you have not read Paradise Valley but as far as I am concerned you might as well start at the first and fall in love with the family and then continue in The Captivating Heart.
You can read a sample chapter to see if it appeals to you.
I was provided a free copy of this book for the purposes of review, the opinions expressed are my own.
